His Present Presence

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Ps 46:1

The Call to be Faithful

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints who are in Ephesus, and are faithful in Christ Jesus:

Ephesians 1:1

One of the attributes of God’s character is Faithfulness. God is always true to Himself. He cannot lie. He always remains faithful to all He says He will do.

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:22-23

While some of the attributes of God’s character are His alone, e.g., He is all powerful, all knowing, and present everywhere at all times, there are some attributes that we are exhorted to develop in our own lives. Faithfulness is one of these.

When we become a Christian, God’s purpose and our desire is to become like Jesus. There is no greater role model to follow in life than our Lord and Saviour. Therefore, we need to cultivate faithfulness to His Word, but also faithfulness in our conduct and way of living among our family, friends and community.

Here are some simple ways to cultivate the lifestyle of faithful witness:

Be true to your marriage vows. (Ephesians 5)

Be scrupulously honest, avoiding exaggeration and half-truths. (Proverbs 12:22)

Keep to your commitments, even if it may mean a heavy loss to you (Ps 15:4)

By being faithful, dependable and reliable, we are showing the Character of Jesus to those around us. We also need to be faithful to speak and teach the Word of God accurately. Those who do not stay true to the clear commands of scripture are unfaithful. They may profess Christ, but their lives betray their true heart and motive is to please themselves, rather than God.

When faithfulness in our personal lives and witness to others is our priority, Jesus tells us that we will hear these words:

“Well done, good and faithful servant”. Matthew 25:21 and 23.
